"An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in.
A pessimist stays up to make sure that old year leaves."
-Bill Vaughn, life coach
Powerful, dynamic music of the 116th Rose Parade is echoing through my family room as I'm preparing this newsletter. What an incredible age we ive in, when I can compose on a computer, listen and watch a fabulous parade going on in Southern California, all in the comfort of my own home. Truly amazing!
During the parade, inserts of old movies of past parades are played showing how floats were done over 100 years ago. The technology used today to creatively portray all types of designs and form is truly breathtaking. Looking at the old movies it makes us aware of the many changes that have
evolved through the years. Who would have imagined that millions of people around the globe would be able to see this wonderful event via satellite? Someone had the vision and there are many today making that vision bigger and greater than any of the originators could have dreamed of. Here we are with a new year of opportunities. What adventures will we have? What new ideas will we come up with that will change our lives, our direction? What new opportunities will be presented to us? How will we handle them? Will we discover our true passion for work, for life? What about challenges? Will we be able to handle them, adapting to whatever needs will arise? Lots of questions, however, we'll have to let life's script write itself in its own special way or perhaps we could initiate our own desired agenda?
How about initiating our own agenda? That is empowering in a very special way. If we take time to consciously think about what we desire in life, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically, we become architects of our destiny. This is a fairly significant positioning to take and can really expand our entire perspective about how we want our life to go. How can you go about to be consciously present in your choices? How can you state clearly your truest intentions for yourself and maintain integrity of your purpose to achieve your deepest objectives?
Here are some questions you might want to ask yourself. Grab a pen and paper and write those responses that represent your deepest feelings.
1) What commitment(s) do I desire to make for myself this new year of 2005?
2) How will I go about fulfilling these commitments?
3) What do I need to develop within myself to have this happen?
4) Are there resources that I can utilize to bring the results into position to make these commitments happen?
If you find your answers are slow in coming, don't worry about it. Give yourself time for reflection on the past year of 2004. Think about your accomplishments, large and small. Pat yourself on the back and realize that this is a New Year that will bring a clean slate for new accomplishments to
be written upon. If the year has had tough challenges realize that they will eventually be behind you. Look at those challenges, see the lessons and move ahead with clear vision.
Reflect, project and elect to recognize your individuality and get ready to share with the world that lives around you.
Focus on where you are, where you want to be and be enthusiastic about conscious attentiveness to getting action rolling.
May 2005 bring you the opportunity to expand into a whole new level of your own individual greatness. Know that you make a difference right where you are, being the best you can be, maintaining your true inner vision for your life.
Happy New Year !

"You want to give the best you there is. And that means developing all the
wonder of you...as a human being."

Custom at Duquesne University dictated that if a professor was ten minutes late, class was canceled. One professor arrived early for a 9 a.m. lecture. He placed his hat on his desk, and went to the faculty room.
Before he knew it, it was 9:10. By the time he got back to his classroom, it was empty.
The next day, he let his student have it. "When my hat is here," he fumed, "I'm here!"
The following day, the professor arrived at 9 a.m. He was met by the sight of 28 hats on 28 desks-and no students. -Albert Raizman

GOLDEN NUGGETS
True Stories About Real People
Could you see yourself raising almost 500 children? Could you imagine at the age of 90 taking in children 24/7 with various needs? Bernice Carlton does what few would ever consider doing. However, this is her passion and she is inspiring with her commitment, faith and love.
Bernice is an incredible woman, who at the youthful age of 90 is doing exactly what she loves. Retirement? No such word in her vocabulary. This very special lady is dedicated to young children who are unloved, often abused, and nothing in the world has distracted her from her passion of showing children that they can be safe, loved and wanted.
Bernice's story started over 34 years ago when her sister suggested she open her home to infants. Elvis, Bernice's husband, thought it was a good idea. So they became foster parents, sharing their home with almost 500 children through the years.
When the children come into Bernice's home, they stay until they are placed with caring families. Her objective always is to love and care for the children until they have a good home to go to. Many of the children stay with her for years. She's taken care of drug addicted babies, children who have been abandoned; physically, sometimes sexually abused.
Elvis passed away in 1983 but Bernice keeps up her work with the children she loves so much. The walls of her home are covered with the hundreds of pictures of those she has provided a warm, loving home for. Her comment about continuing to take in children..."I'd be lonesome without them. I'll be here as long as they need me."
