A Moment with Donna © ' Thinking Time'

“To take time to think is to gain time to live.” ~ Nancy Kline

Time and thinking….they do go hand in hand. In today’s busy world one of the most common comments is “I just don’t have enough hours in the day to get everything done that needs to be done.” I know that I have made that remark, or one very similar, many times myself. In fact, I have to be consciously alert to stop my mouth from forming those words that seem to run on automatic replay each day.

Habits are easy to form and the habit of busyness is a common one today. Time and thinking are companions that will empower us if we give ourselves permission to employ them on a daily basis in our lives. How can we do it? How can we give ourselves the luxury of daydreaming, exploring new horizons of opportunity? After all, we can’t afford the luxury of not being productive, being busy! How would it look? What would people think? My response? Who cares!

Our future is built upon how we live each day. Too frequently we get so caught up with the habit of being busy we forget it is ok to step into a realm of doing nothing to become acquainted with who we are. Have you ever noticed how being sick puts you into the doing nothing mode and that seems to be totally, socially acceptable. When you are sick you are left alone. Not acceptable.

How about setting a time just for you for meditate and reflect. Choose your place, your space that’s just for you to enjoy. No special props necessary. Maybe you take a walk or a drive, listen to a particular type of music or maybe you put on earmuffs to drown out noise and just relax. When you give yourself time to allow your mind to work, imagine, design, fabricate solutions, miracles happen. The stress of pressure eases and clarity of thinking evolves. Solutions are seen where they couldn’t be seen before. New ideas surface, options can be studied and an integrity with yourself develops that enables you to be true to who you are and the kind of life you want to live.

We are all players in this motion picture we call ‘life’ and as such we can edit, rerun, erase part or totally what we want in the changing script of our drama. Selective choice is something particularly unique to the human being and we have the right to exercise it.

So the next time you find yourself anxious about your future, focus on where you are and be present so you can decide on how you can go about getting the best and giving the best right now. Give yourself generous moments for self discovery and your legacy to life will be longstanding as you will be living productively, richly and happily creating your own living script others will envy.

Power Thought for June

“There is no easy or quick path to happiness, there is no single spot where you can start. Where you are right now is the best place to begin.” ~Byram Karasu, M.D.

(~.~) June's Chuckle (~.~)

My sister walked into a men’s clothing store looking to buy a shirt for me and pants for stepfather. Now, I’m well over six feet tall and my stepdad is pretty short, so she asked a salesman for help.

“I’m looking for a shirt with an 18 neck and 38-inch sleeves,” she told him, “and trousers with a 30-inch waist and an inseam of 27 inches.”

After absorbing those measurements, the salesman said, “I have to ask. Do this guy’s knuckles drag on the floor?” ~John Hale

GOLDEN NUGGETS
True Stories About Real People

There are many ways to teach. This is a true story about a very special man who not only loved his profession but his students as well, setting a standard that is not easily forgotten by those who were a part of this particular experience.

A group of high school students were assigned to do a service project at a community outreach center. They met on a particular morning in a neighborhood that was a distance from their school.

While waiting for the instructor to arrive, they noticed a homeless man who was asleep on the sidewalk in front of the center. The students laughed and joked about this dirty looking person, talked about how crummy the neighborhood was and how dingy the facility looked. When they checked at the front desk, no one was there and a note had been placed on the office counter which said, “Back in 5 minutes. Have a seat.”

So the students did exactly what they were told and sat down in the waiting area. Within a few minutes the homeless man wandered into the waiting area towards the beverage table set up for those who came into the center. He poured himself a cup of coffee and the young people started snickering, laughing at the pathetic figure. Their snickering turned to amazement when the homeless man removed his shabby coat and hat.

To their amazement, excepting the dirty, worn sneakers, the man they saw was very well groomed. He turned to them and said, “Welcome, I’m Mr. Jones, the director of this center.”

The students were very embarrassed and knew he had heard all of their remarks and didn’t know what to say. “Let this be your first lesson in community service: You can’t truly reach out to people if you judge them or make fun of them.” Mr. Jones intense gaze captured their total attention. “Remember that a person’s appearance often has little to do with his or her character. We are all human beings who will need the help of one another at some point in our lives.”
