THE DONNA SEEBO NEWSLETTER~ NOVEMBER 1, 2005

A Moment with Donna © "LETTING GO"

Fall’s winds are performing their musical tango through our trees, whipping and flipping brown-gold leaves all over the place. The once tidy yard is now filled with the debris of this seasons change. Soon I’ll be out and about sweeping up the remnants of summers costume, which now lies dead, dry and dusty on the ground and they’ll fill our trash can to its brim.

Everything seems to have its season. Like the trees letting go of their leaves so they can survive the rigorous cold of winter, so we too have our times of change to cope with. Change comes with many different faces and expressions.

A friend is going through the process of preparation of transition with her 99 year old mother. Another is dealing with being laid off of work within a few days. Still another is preparing for the birth of a baby daughter within just a few weeks. And there are so many more people I know of who are dealing with their own individual stages of change. Each of them must handle their circumstances, recognizing that letting go of what has been, sometimes grieving in the process to prepare for the unknown of the future, is a challenge

Change isn’t always a joyful happening. However, if we can be present with where we are, acknowledging what is unfolding before us, we then can make the process of letting go and moving forward a bit smoother.

Here are some suggestions that I try to employ as I evolve through this experience of life. Perhaps they will help you.

1.) Be in the moment. If you are feeling in the dumps, don’t run from your feelings. Find a quiet place where you can nourish your mind and spirit with music, read an inspirational book, perhaps even write in a journal everything you feel. Sometimes it is good to be with a friend or even call them on the phone. These feelings you have are real and before you can let them go and make space for joy you need to make peace with them

2.) Be aware that change brings opportunities. Many of them that we otherwise wouldn’t consider. If we don’t recognize that change frequently creates voids in our lives so we have room for new experiences, one can feel very alone. To understand that these alterations will broaden our horizons, talents and expression can bring a sense of freedom that opens our world dramatically. The old adage that you can’t put new wine into old wineskins still holds great truth.

3.) Be patient. Are you loving and forgiving with others? Don’t forget to be that way with yourself. After all you deserve kindness and thoughtfulness just as much as anyone else.

4.) This too will pass. Like the four seasons of each year, we cycle and recycle life’s experiences. Just think of the stories you will be able to share when you are one hundred and twenty years old.

5.) Be grateful. This month holds precious the holiday of ‘Thanksgiving’. We should honor and respect the wonderful abundance in our lives, appreciating and sharing with others our sincere recognition of our many freedoms, opportunities and the ability to express our individuality in our own unique way.

As we enter into this holiday season, I invite you to ‘let go’ of whatever no longer serves right purpose or place in your life and ‘let in’ what does. Flow with lifes’ dance of new steps and you’ll design a whole new style of living that will be an statement of your true self.

Power Thought for NOVEMBER

Yesterday is but a dream,
Tomorrow is only a vision.
But today well lived makes
Every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day.

Recipe Box

Apple & Bacon Stuffed Crown Roast of Pork
Want to try something new for the Thanksgiving holiday? I shared this wonderful recipe on my show recently and people loved it. This roast will definitely tantalize your taste buds. This is from my radio guest, Leo Pearlstein. Enjoy!

6-8 pound crown roast of pork, made with two loins of pork, ribs attached
Salt and pepper to taste
1 clove garlic, crushed
~~
Stuffing
1 pound ground pork, 3 cups cornbread stuffing mix, 2 Granny Smith apples (pealed, cored, and diced), 6 slices of bacon (cooked until crisp and crumbled), 1 cup fresh or canned corn kernels, drained, 1 cup chopped celery, 1/2 cup apple juice or apple cider and 1/2 cup melted butter.

Directions……1) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a shallow roasting pan with aluminum foil and set aside. 2) Rinse the roast and pat it dry. Season the roast with salt and pepper to taste, and rub with the garlic. Transfer the roast to the prepared roasting pan. 3) To make the stuffing, place all of the stuffing ingredients into a large bowl, and mix until well blended. Pack the stuffing mixture into the center of the roast. Then wrap the rib tip with aluminum foil and place a sheet of aluminum foil over the stuffing. 4) Cook for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, or until a thermometer inserted in the stuffing reads 165 degrees F. To promote browning, uncover the stuffing for the last 30 minutes of cooking.

**
A couple of Donna tips….you can use the packaged precooked bacon from the store and that will save you time. Should you not be a fan of corn, substitute fresh chopped onion or another sturdy vegetable of choice.

GOLDEN NUGGETS

True Stories About Real People

Earl Nightingale, author and radio commentator was renowned for his excellent radio broadcasting. Here is a quote he gave over the air many years ago and I feel it still holds true today.

“We read about people who sail all around the world in a thirty-foot sailboat or overcome handicaps to win a gold medal at the Olympics, and we later find they’re stories about persistence.

I remember well the day I sat down to write the first of my radio programs. That was more than twenty years ago, more than fifty-two hundred programs ago, the equivalent of thirty-six full-length books. Certainly no world’s record, but a good example of what persistence can do.

When we see the tired faces of commuters on the big city subway, and children climbing aboard the school bus, we see persistence at work. We see it in the expression of a housewife doing grocery shopping or the week’s laundry. But everything we do contributes to the life we lead, the joys we experience, the satisfactions we realize from time to time. And persistence itself is a joy when we’re doing what we enjoy and want to do. Not a very complicated formula, is it?”
