A Moment with Donna © 'FLYING KITES'

Winds are blowing furiously. Leaves that were once breathtakingly colored with brilliant shades of red, gold, and green are being snapped off of their branches by the dynamics of seasonal change that Fall always brings. With all of their life force sapped out the now brown, dry and crackly leaves blanket the ground. Everywhere you step the crunching sounds of dead leaves fills your ears.
When blustery weather hits most people start bundling up, retreating from its challenging presence. Such an environment was in full force a recent afternoon when I happened to stop in a restaurant to order take out. People in line complained about the cool temps and the briskness of the wind as it whipped about scattering everything in its path. While waiting I struck up a conversation with the waitress. Looking wistfully out the restaurant windows, she said, What a great day to fly a kite! She then started to tell me how, in her hometown in Ohio, when the winds of Fall start to blow people get out their kites and race to take advantage of the moment. She described the joy, laughter and spontaneity of kite flying. You feel so free and it is so much fun! Her face lit up with a joy of memory that held its own special gift just for her. Perspective is an amazing thing. Here this young woman looks at the wind as a wonderful thing, others a pain, an inconvenience. What is our perspective of who we are; what we can or cannot do? Are we willing to flow with lifes moments or are we going to limit ourselves with our fears or outdated belief systems? What if we took our fears, put them into a kite and let the winds of life lift them into unlimited opportunity? Sounds whimsical, doesnt it? What is the beauty of a kite? Held by a slender string, it is lifted up into the moving currents of air, performing aerobatic feats that cause us to smile with every upsurge of air. We hold the string lightly, letting the kite do its own dance while we stay securely on the ground. We let go and let the wind do the work for us, while we gently pay attention to what we need to do. When the wind stops, the kite falls to the ground and we let go of what we cant control. Flowing with life is a skill we can all learn. So the next time someone tells you, Oh, go fly a kite! - smile and thank them. When you understand the gift of the kite you will discover yourself and the true meaning of living your moment now. GOLDEN NUGGETS True Stories About Real People Whats in a name? Heres a story about a very successful business that made an unlikely word famous. Dave Schwartz worked as a mechanic during the 1970s. He rented used cars to actors and other famous people who wanted to keep a low profile. One of the cars rented out was stolen and the police report described it as a wreck. Dave saw an opportunity in this descriptive statement and changed his companys name to Rent-a-Wreck. Of course, we know the rest of the story. Rent-a-Wreck has become a leader in used car rentals. This business name has enticed media reporters to assist in helpful marketing. When reporters actually see the rentals, they see clean and reliable vehicles. Customers who stop in also discover the same thing and sell themselves on the bargain theyve found. Dave Schwartz gambled that the word wreck would produce rents and he was right, winning in more ways than one.
