“Until one is committed, there is always hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans that the moment one definitely commits oneself, providence moves too. ~~ W.H. Murray
It’s party time. The 4th of July, a national holiday, brings the opportunity to share good food, fun, conversation, fireworks and overall good times with good people. This is always such a dynamic holiday. The quote by W.H. Murray seemed to fit well with this month’s theme.
Webster’s Dictionary defines commitment in this way: a pledge or promise; to engage oneself, involvement. When one thinks of the history behind this historical period in time, commitment was a very important part.
The actions and determinations of a small group of people creating changes that eventually produced our Constitution are definitely worth studying.
However, I’d like to approach commitment from a different slant, a personal one. That is commitment to oneself. All too often we get so busy with life’s responsibilities, striving towards our dreams, putting the needs of others before our own. We think we are invincible. In general, we ignore the fact that if we don’t take care of ourselves, we are going to hit a physical wall that will knock the wind out of our sails and that isn’t fun.
Every day I receive material in the mail from authors, publishing houses and various other sources that keep me informed about the latest changes on nutrition, health challenges, health care and many other items. There is a major shift occurring in the minds and habits of many people regarding their health and how to safeguard it. The average consumer is realizing they must take responsibility for their state of well being and want to know as much as possible to be informed. This attitude of commitment towards wellness is being brought about by many factors that have evolved over the last 25 years.
I can recall when I was 13 years old being told by a family physician that people in the future would have to take responsibility for staying healthy as the medical profession couldn’t do it for them. The conversation came about because he had had a major heart attack and the treatment he had received made him aware of what his patients had to go through. Also, he got a serious dose of reality regarding medication, its side effects and how if you are given the wrong medication, too much or too little of any drug, problems evolve. He also realized that how he had not taken care of himself in the past had help to create the physical challenges leading to his heart attack. His biggest error he said was not having downtime. Work always came first. His sincere words made a major impression on me.
Make a commitment to take care of yourself. Eat well, take time to relax, spend time with friends and family. Don’t forget you are a unique individual and to accomplish your dreams, wellness is so important. We need you and your wonderful talents. When you give to yourself you can give more abundantly on just about every level of life.

Power Thought for July
“The only difference between those who have failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits. Good habits are the key to all success. Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedes all others is, ‘I will form good habits and become their slaves.’” ~ Og Mandino
(~.~) July's Chuckle (~.~)
A little boy was attending his first wedding.
After the service, his cousin asked him, "How many women can a man marry?"
"Sixteen," the boy responded. His cousin was amazed that he had an answer so quickly.
"How do you know that?"
"Easy," the little boy said.
"All you have to do is add it up, like the Bishop said,
4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer."

GOLDEN NUGGETS
True Stories About Real People
Challenges can come in all shapes and sizes. This one was a doozy and is an inspiration for problem solving in a big way.
There was a janitor who worked at the First Security Bank in Boise, Idaho. This particular night he found a box filled with eight thousand checks worth eight hundred and forty thousand dollars and accidentally put it on a trash table while he was cleaning up the area. That same evening, as always, the operator of the paper shredder dutifully pick up all items on the trash table, including the box of checks and dumped them into his machine, which cut the check into quarter-inch shreds. When finished he put all of the paper scraps into the garbage can outside the bank. When the bank supervisor came in the next morning and found out what happened he was devastated.
Most of the checks had been cashed at the bank and were awaiting shipment to a clearinghouse. This loss represented a bookkeeper’s worst nightmare since most of the checks were still unrecorded, and as a result, the bankers couldn’t know who paid what to whom.
What do you think the supervisor did? He ordered that the shredded pieces be reconstructed. Fifty employees worked in two shifts for six hours a day inside six rooms-shifting, matching, and pasting the pieces together as if they were jigsaw puzzles-until all eight thousand of the checks were put together again.
