A Moment with Donna...

2010 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

               It seems 2009 evaporated in a nano-second, truly amazing! People of all ages are feeling as if time has been speeding up and they shake their heads in frustration, wondering if 2010 will zip by just as fast.

Every month I find in my mailbox, snail mail and electronic, promotions or publications regarding the prophecies of doom and gloom for 2012.  It is truly fascinating to observe how a focus on a specific year can be a framework for fear.  In as much we are beginning a New Year -- 2010, I thought this would be a good opportunity to take a different position and encourage you to focus on the now and let 2012 take care of itself.  If you get so caught up in fear then you won't take care of the present, if you don't take care of the present then 2012 will have its own tale to tell. It will become a self-fulfilling prophecy of darkness.

Have you ever spent time reading and studying history?  It really deserves time and thoughtfulness to observe.  It seems like mankind for eons has gone through repeatedly dark ages of one kind or another.  No matter what part of the world you focus on similar patterns evolve.  It would be wise of us to pay attention because when people don't we have the tendency to repeat the same patterns our ancestors experienced.  It is said if you don't take the time to study the past you are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. So how do we make a difference?  How can we make this world a better place?  By staying on course with our personal purpose of excellence, whatever that may be.

Living one day at a time makes a difference too.  If you live in the moment giving your best, maintaining your focus, then your determined perseverance will hold your place in the halls of  recognition for accomplishment.  Responsibilities still have to be met; people will die and new souls will come into this experience called life; businesses and positions of power will come and go; and Mother Nature will always have a surprise or two up her sleeve just to remind us that we are microscopic pixels in the overall picture of life.  Challenges and change will always be with us.  The greatest security you have is faith and trust in yourself, your talents and relationships with other people.

Every generation faces their own set of problems that demand attention politically, socially, economically and spiritually.  We can continue to repeat unnecessary patterns or learn to appreciate the wisdom of the past's lessons and let them show us the processes of right action via the process of examination of what needs to be dealt with today.  Talk is cheap and only when well thought out action is taken is change able to come to life.

Life is an ever changing landscape with varying scripts and costumes to match the scenery's expression.  Questions need to be asked as to how you want to play your role within your life.  Do you choose to live with dark, fearful expectations or embrace with enthusiasm the opportunity to reach for adventure and new learning experiences? Walter Cronkite once said, "New technologies give proof of the human beings intellectual capacity.  Can we really believe that we are incapable of applying the same intellectual power to solving the great problems the world faces, over population, pollution and poverty chief among them?"

This is a new year.  How are you going to channel your forces, your ship of talents?  What opportunities are you going to reach for?  Where do you wish to see yourself?  What are your plans for achievement, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically?  You are the driving force of action and choice in your life -- not a government or anything else.

Take time to make your plans for 2010 and let the doomsayers of 2012 spout their fears into nothingness and the future will take care of itself.  It is after all the present that makes the future.  This is your life...take charge now...live it with purpose, joy, passion and curiosity.  You are the one to create the plan and you are the one who will make the action to achieve the results.

This is your life...go for the highest and best and don't forget to enjoy the richness of your journey.

Health Information

Finally we are becoming more aware of how using natural fats are healthier than the artificial ones and also, that fat is necessary for absorption of many nutrients for healthier bodies. The following details are worth being aware of for your wellness and those that you love.  Butter is not an enemy for wellness but margarine sure is.  Read and find out why. Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings.

 DO YOU KNOW the difference between margarine and butter? Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine..
Very High in Trans fatty acids.
Triples risk of coronary heart disease.
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..
Lowers quality of breast milk.
Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most interesting yet disturbing fact....

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC... and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT
These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:
Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:
 * no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
 * it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why...because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

The Recipe Box – Apple-Glazed Roasted Vegetables

If you love veggies and really are trying to make the shift into a more balanced eating pattern now that the holidays are over, this is a dish I know you'll enjoy.  Sweetly flavorful it will help your taste buds enjoy  healthier fare. Also, you can substitute different vegetables for those listed, creating a whole new dish.  Experiment and this may become a family favorite. This recipe serves 8.

Add salt and pepper; toss until evenly coated. Spread in single layer on jellyroll pan.  Roast 30 minutes on lower oven rack. Stir; roast until tender and golden, 40 minutes. True Stories about Real People

Trouble and opportunity often look so much alike that a person can never be sure which one is really knocking on the door. Sometimes what looks like opportunity turns out to be nothing but trouble, and what looks like trouble proves to be opportunity.                By 1849, for instance, Nathaniel Hawthorne had already published considerable work, but none of it established his position in the field of letters. Along with his writing he also held at different times several government posts.                What looked like trouble came in 1849 when Hawthorne lost his position as surveyor at the custom house. But in the year that followed he wrote 'The Scarlet Letter'. This book immediately gave him a distinctive place in American literature.                The loss of a job looked like trouble, but in the end it proved to be opportunity.      ~~Author Unknown

Smiling

It's hard to keep smiling when troubles are pilin
Their weight on your neck till it's sprained;
It's hard to keep grinning when others are winning
The prizes for which you have strained.
It's hard to be cheery on days wet and dreary,
When everything near you looks drowned;
It's hard to be sunny when all of your money
Is sunk in a hole in the ground.
But how will it aid you, when woe has waylaid you,
To rumble and grumble and swear?
There's nothing that's healing in kicking the ceiling,
Or hitting the rungs of your chair.
It's hard to look pleasant when anguish is present,
And yet it is strictly worth while;
Not all of your scowling and fussing and growling Can show off your grit like a smile.
