| "The Chinese have visited America centuries before Columbus arrived on its Eastern shores! This discovery is going to rewrite history books!" exclaims a narrator of an upcoming television program.
This type of statement usually causes me to chuckle when I hear it. It really is no surprise that people were traveling around our globe centuries before Columbus and that trade existed between continents. Exploration has always been apart of the human condition, frequently
forced upon us due to changing circumstances. Usually it was a need for food, shelter, better conditions to live in and sometimes just to satisfy curiosity. What new adventures would we find? Could we expand our boundaries, our world?
Here we are in the last month of 2004. Within just a matter of days we will cross a time boundary called the New Year, 2004. We'll be able to refresh ourselves by knowing we can leave the old behind and move forward to a new slate of prospects. How refreshing that can be to our hearts, minds and spirit. If 2004 was fraught with difficulties, challenges, heartaches
and frustrations we look forward to better opportunities. If 2004 has been a year of abundant blessings, we plan expanding our growth, development of more of the same.
In truth, everyday provides us with chances to cross new boundaries for ourselves. Each moment of each day brings its own special prods, wrapped in rather plain circumstances. Example - A man, who has gone through tremendous adversity, suffers a dramatic drop in his self esteem and chooses to become a bum. For a time he lives on the streets, visiting
rescue missions, panhandling for cash, not caring whether he lives or dies. One morning he wakes up to a reality that he doesn't want to stay on the streets anymore. How can he make a shift to gain back his self respect?
While walking down an alley in the back of a restaurant row he sees all of the dirt and garbage that has piled up. He knocks on the back door of a restaurant, asking the owner if he could earn a meal if he cleaned up the alley. The owner, surprised by the offer, says yes. Given a broom, this individual proceeds to clean it up. When finished he knocks on the door, giving the broom back to the owner and asks for his meal. Stunned beyond belief, the owner feeds the stranger heartily, grateful for his earnest labor.
This stranger offers to maintain the cleanliness of the alley for payment of meals. Then within a short time he is working in the restaurant, cleaning and doing all of the kitchen duties that most people avoid. With each step forward his self esteem heals. He earns his self respect and the respect of others by honoring and caring for the most basic of tasks for others and himself. The greatness of soul and purpose and forgiveness was earned and learned by a truly great man - Grand Master Beyong Yu. You can read about his phenomenal life in "Master U" published by Hay House.
During these busy days ahead keep in mind the true message of the season. Peace on Earth, Good Will Towards Men. As you celebrate with friends and loved ones, keep in mind that this holiday period honors a very special gift. You are the embodiment of that gift and are quite precious in the Universal Plan of this experience we call Life. When you have good
will within yourself, crossing boundaries and entering new territories of experience you will be able to share that good will abundantly with everyone you come in contact with. Your light will shine and this world will be a much brighter place to live in.
Abundant blessings and Happy Holidays to you all. Donna Seebo

GOLDEN NUGGETS
True Stories About Real People
The holidays can sometimes be a depressing period for individuals that are going through difficult times. Here is a story of one man and how in doing what he didn't want to do, changed his perceptions.
This is Marc Wilson's story. He lives in Columbia, South Carolina. It's the holiday season, just after 9/11 and he's out of a job. Middle aged and not used to being unemployed he doesn't have a sense of purpose and the days pass with a deep emptiness that nothing seems to fill. He has family that requires his attention but that doesn't take care of the many empty hours that he is unable to occupy with work.
Marc's wife Linda asks him to play Santa to 30 children who will be at a local hall receiving holiday presents. That is the last place he wants to be but she insists so he rehearses his hearty 'ho, ho, ho' with her enthusiastic support.
What happened was quite special. When Mark arrived at the hall he was greeted by all of the children. Their big eyes glowed with joy at his appearance and they excitedly told him about their new shoes; how good they had been and that they wanted to sing songs. They hugged him, kissed him and each and every child sat in his lap for their picture with Santa Claus.
In Marc's words, "Their uninhibited delight and excited voices brought tears to my eyes. I felt a wave of compassion. These children were God's most fragile gifts to a cold world -gifts of innocence. These homeless children lifted me from self-doubt and disillusionment. At that
sweet moment I lost my mind and regained my sanity.

$500 Mistake Fudge
This is a recipe that I have used for over 28 years and it is absolutely delicious. Even people who don't care for fudge love this creamy, rich style. You can use candied cherries, pecans, walnuts, even almonds, macadamia nuts if you like. Easy to fix, it makes wonderful gifts for family and friends.
Four and a half cups sugar
Two sticks butter
One large can evaporated milk
16 oz. of chocolate chips
Tablespoon of Vanilla
9X13" pan (preferably glass)
In a large pot, put sugar and milk. In a separate bowl, combine chocolate chips, vanilla, butter.
Bring sugar and milk to a boil, stirring constantly. When it comes to a boil, lower heat to maintain boiling point, continuing to stir for 8 minutes. After sugar/milk mixture has cooked for 8 minutes-remove from heat- and stir in chips, butter and vanilla. ~Do Not Beat Mixture~. Stir only until completely melted.*
*If you want to add nuts, candied cherries, etc. this is the time to
do it.
Pour into greased pan, let cool. Put into refrigerator for one hour
and then slice. |
