QUOTE FOR THE MONTH
Quote for February
"The only death you die is the death you die everyday by not living."
Norman Vaughn
(~.~) February's Chuckle (~.~)
When I went to lunch today, I noticed an old lady siting on a park bench sobbing her eyes out. I stopped and asked her what was wrong. She said, "I have a 22 year old husband at home. He makes love to me every morning and then gets up and makes me pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit and freshly ground coffee."
I asked, "Well, then, why are you crying?"
She said, "He makes me homemade soup for lunch and my favorite brownies and then makes love to me for half the afternoon."
I asked, "Well, why are you crying, for heavens sake!"
She said, "For dinner he makes me a gourmet meal with wine and my favorite dessert and then makes love to me until 2:00am."
Frustrated, I asked again, "Why in the world are you still crying?"
She answered, "I can't remember where I live!"

GOLDEN NUGGETS
True Stories about Real People
"Nana"
It is early am in a small airport. After checking in my bags and getting my boarding pass, I walk over to some bright orange chairs arranged against a grubby airport wall. Sitting down, I make myself comfortable by propping my feet up onto my carryon case and resting a book on my knees for easy reading. It was going to be a long wait for
my flight and reading a good book always make the time pass more quickly.
As it turned out I never got past the first page. A young woman, Allison, sat down beside me and we started chatting. She told me how she had moved into a small town and was now going back to Buffalo, New York to take care of her grandmother who is dying from a respiratory disease. Allison, a trained nurse, wants to be sure that her grandmother is well taken care of by the family that loves her so much.
Allison starting telling me about "Nana", her dynamic grandmother. "Nana has told us so many times about how she and Grandpa met. It is so romantic, I think that I will never meet as fine a man as my grandpa."
"When Nana was in her late teens she met a boy named Tom. She was very much in love with him and they planned to be married. But World War II started and he was drafted. Sent overseas, he was killed in the first rush of fighting. Nana was heartbroken. She didn't feel she could ever marry anyone else."
"Times were tough, money tight. To be able to make ends meet, Nana lived at home with her family. She worked and gave her money to the family but it was still very difficult financially. To help the situation Nana's mother cleaned up one of the bedrooms and put an ad in the local paper for a boarder. There is today a joke that circulates in the family that it truly was an ad for a husband for Nana."
"A young soldier from the Army answered the ad, passed all the requirements of Nana's mother for a boarder, quickly becoming a part of the household. Each day he made a point of greeting Nana. She had no time for him. She had determined she wasn't going to get married period. Then he started asking her if she would like to go to various activities. Always the answer was no. He wouldn't give up."
"Nana had bright red hair and was really spunky when she was young," said Allison. "Being Irish she wasn't going to do anything that she didn't want to. That's a fact. She didn't expect Grandpa's persistence however. One day, after work, she saw her father and the young soldier talking in the living room. She watched them shake hands, smiling about some secret agreement. Later she learned that her father had accepted the young man's proposal to marry Nana. When she found out about it she
was a bit miffed but had to admit that she really liked him. A few months later they were married."
"Grandpa died in 1988. They had married in the early 1940's, had seven children and lived through many difficult times. Married for over 40 years their lives were rich and full. They really loved each other a great deal. Nana used to say that love has to be nourished and nurtured by caring, being honest and doing the best you can with what you have." said Allison. "One day I hope to meet someone special just like she did.
Someone special, like my Grandpa. He just never gave up."
