CHRISTMAS LIGHTS©

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS©

Thomas Kinkade, a renown artist, famous for the luminous light in his paintings, was once asked by an observer of his artistic expression, "Why does this Kinkade guy have all the lights on in his paintings?" At the time he couldn't answer the stranger.
Today Mr. Kinkade has some answers that I think are quite inspiring.

"To convey hope and joy to others, the scenes I paint are alive with light. Each canvas is infused with brightness because I believe this is how the world can be and sometimes is. As a painter, light is the essence of what I try to capture on canvas-a light that dispels darkness, that chases away confusion and despair. Heaven, at least in my artistic imagination, is a place where the windows always glow."

When I think about Mr. Kinkade's comments, my memory bank of many childhood Christmases is turned on. Motion picture frames of past experiences play back with vividness of color and action. My family lived in the outskirts of Los Angeles. When the holiday season started to get into full swing, right after Thanksgiving, it was exciting and fun. The house was to be decorated up to the eaves. Everyone in our neighborhood enthusiastically worked with lights and decorations, doing their holiday fantasies in the most creative way possible.

There was shopping to be done. Mother would take her time to think out what it was she wanted to do. Father, wise man that he was, never interfered in these activities. He would get the Christmas tree and after that it was up to Mother to take care of everything else. Within the first week of December our house was totally decorated.
Every evening, at 5:00pm, the plug for the lights would be put into the wall socket, then our home turned into a Fantasyland of color and lights. The decorations created such a charismatic mood that you couldn't help but feel wonderful with the warmth of it all.

What was most exciting to me was putting on my winter coat and walking with friends and family up and down the blocks of our neighborhoods, looking at everyone's colorfully decorated homes. The neighbors, if they weren't walking about themselves, often would invite us to share some cookies or cider. You'd visit, chatting about how they put everything together. We'd all admire the wonderful displays of imagination, color and design that were put together. It was lots of fun.

What Mr. Kinkade said is true. Heaven is a place where the windows always glow. Every home I pass in my neighborhood, brightly illuminated with colored lights, reminds me of the richness of this wonderful season and that every home carries a part of heaven in it.

Each year brings its own special gift of memories. This year I wish for you and your family, as well as your many friends, an abundance of new packages of experiences all wrapped with beauty, color, friendship and joy, then tied with love and happiness. May the glow of universal compassion and understanding light the way for worldwide peace, prosperity.

Happy Holidays and Blessed Celebrations for you all.

AN UNEXPECTED GIFT
The red flag on the parking meter was visible, and sure enough, a
gentleman found a souvenir from the city of West Hollywood, California
on his windshield. But it wasn't a parking ticket; it was a poem:
The meter was red, as time had expired.
In the rush of the season, we knew you'd be tired.
A parking ticket would just make you blue,
And in the holiday spirit this just would not do.
So during this time of friendship and good cheer,
Season's greetings to you and best wishes all year.

GOLDEN NUGGETS
Real Stories About Real People

"Donna, I am forwarding this story to you cause I think it is great".
Linda Green, Spokane, Washington

******

His name was Fleming and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved. "I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."

"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied, waving off the offer. At that moment the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel.
"Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.

"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me take him and give him a good education. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll grow to be a man you can be proud of."

The deal was accepted by Farmer Fleming. The son lived up to the expectations of the nobleman and his father. In time, Farmer Fleming's son graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London. He became known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin. Years later, the nobleman's son was stricken with pneumonia. What saved him? You guessed correctly, Penicillin. The nobleman's name? Randolph Churchill. His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill.
