DONNA SEEBO'S NEWSLETTER© January 11, 2002

" READY, SET, GO " ©

Its January, 2002. What adventures, lessons and experiences await us?

New Year's is always a time of celebration, a time for joy, being with friends and family
to welcome a fresh start, new opportunities and optimism for an unknown future.
Many years ago my husband and I started a New Year's Day tradition. We sit down with a piece of paper and pen, turn on some pleasant music and think about what we would like to accomplish in the New Year. After a little reflection we put our desires, dreams down in written form.

I find that I like to classify sections of focus such as home, money, career, health,
whatever needs to be itemized. My husband makes his list in a different way that works best for him. It doesn't make any difference how you do it. It is just good to write down what is in your mind, describing in detail if necessary, what your objectives are.

When finished, we talk about what we have written out, then put the sheets of paper
into an envelope marked for January 1 of the next year. We tuck it away in a drawer so we can, on the next New Year's Day, see what we accomplished. Periodically I like to pull out my list during the year so I can review my objectives. It helps me to maintain my focus, perhaps cross off some of the finished work projects and maybe add to the list some new directives.

Why is this exercise valuable? It is really quite simple. When you write you send a
message to your brain that the subconscious locks onto. If you have feeling behind your visualization of your desires, something quite unique evolves. Somehow a pattern of action is set forward to bring you into the environment of people and circumstances that help you to fulfill the desire/dream. Many times the road of experience takes us down a totally new avenue we are unaware of. It really is quite amazing to say the least.

I believe the key to this habit for success is focus (writing down your desires),
visualizing the accomplishment (believe it can be done) and then putting it into an
envelope (releasing concern for how to do it) and putting it away (faith on achieving
results). Life is about living, not existing. Pick a quiet time and place. Reflect on what means the most to you and write out your dreams, goals and aspirations for the New Year. Don't worry about how everything will be taken care of; just have the faith and resolution that it will. Then set out and about, doing the best with what you have, reaching out for opportunity. When 'opportunity knocks', open the door wide with enthusiasm and excitement.

This is your life. Live with the joyful expectation of the best.

May 2002 bring you joy, love, prosperity, new friendships and the fulfillment of your
hearts dreams.

QUOTE FOR THE MONTH
JANUARY'S QUOTE
"DON'T QUIT"

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out,
Don't give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worse,
That you must not quit.

When Travis was in kindergarten, he was learning about the differences between
reptiles, fish and warm-blooded animals.

One day, Travis came home with a concerned look on his face. When his mother
asked him what was wrong, he responded hesitantly, "Mom, when Dad loses all of his hair, will he still be a mammal?"

GOLDEN NUGGETS
True Stories About Real People
This story was sent to me by E. Brown who received it from a friend. It is especially
touching and a perspective to start the New Year with. Enjoy.

1000 Marbles

The older I get, the more I enjoy Saturday mornings. Perhaps it's the quiet solitude
that comes with being the first to rise, or maybe it's the unbounded joy of not having to be at work. A few weeks ago I was shuffling toward the basement with a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and the morning paper in the other. What began as a typical Saturday morning, turned into one of those lessons that life seems to hand you form time to time. Let me tell you about it.

I turned the dial up into the phone portion of the band on my ham radio in order to
listen to a Saturday morning swap net. Along the way, I came across an older sounding chap, with a tremendous signal and a golden voice. You know the kind; he sounded like he should be in the broadcasting business. He was telling whomever he was talking with something about a "Thousand Marbles". I was intrigued and stopped to listen to what he had to say.

"Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you're busy with your job. I'm sure they pay you well but
it's a shame you have to be away from home and your family so much. Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work sixty or seventy hours a week to make ends meet. Too bad you missed our daughter's dance recital. He continued, "Let me tell you something Tom, something that has helped me keep a good perspective on my own priorities." And that's when he began to explain his theory of a "Thousand Marbles".

"You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic. The average person lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years. Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and came up with 3900, which is the number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime. "Now stick with me Tom, I'm getting to the important part. It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in detail", he went on, "and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight hundred Saturdays. I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy".

"So I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had. I ended up having to
visit three toy stores to round up 1000 marbles. I took them home and put them inside a large, clear plastic container right here in the sack next to my gear. Every Saturday since then, I have taken one marble out and thrown it away. I found that by watching the marbles diminish I focus more on the really important things in life. There is nothing like watching your time here on this earth run out to help get your priorities straight!"

Now let me tell you one last thing before I sign off with you and take my lovely wife out
for breakfast. This morning, I took the very last marble out of the container. I figure that if I make it until next Saturday then I have been given a little extra time. It was nice to meet you Tom, I hope you spend more time with your family, and I hope to meet you again here on the band. 75 year Old Man, this is K9NZQ, clear and going QRT, Good Morning!"

You could have heard a pin drop on the band when this fellow signed off. I guess he
gave us all a lot to think about. I had planned to work on the antenna that morning, and
then I was going to meet up with a few hams to work on the next club newsletter. Instead, I went upstairs and woke my wife up with a kiss. "Cmon honey, I'm taking you and the kids to breakfast!"

"What brought this on?" she asked with a smile.

"Oh, nothing special, it's just been a long time since we spent a Saturday together with the kids. Hey, can we stop at a toy store while we are out? I need to buy some
marbles."
