You have a dream, desire, and yearn to achieve great results. Nothing is happening - or so you perceive. You study, push, shove, work, plan, still no visible results, you get frustrated. Too many responsibilities, too many obstacles; you feel so tired, and cry out in
weariness, "I'm sick of this crap! "Why do I have to work so hard? Why can't I be lucky like other people?""Life isn't fair!"
"Life isn't fair", what a true statement. Life is downright impersonal. Non discriminating-it gives us total freedom to take who, what we are and create a masterpiece or a mediocre lump of ourselves.
Every day a story comes to my attention about different individuals. Some live their lives with gusto and richness that just about anyone would want to copy. Others live their lives, moaning about why they'll never attain their heart's desires and wallow in tight fitting pity pots of 'woe
is me - this is the way it is and I can't change it'.
Life isn't a stagnant process. It is agitating at best. Problems, challenges arise almost daily and we have to deal with them. Sometimes we'd rather put a pillow over our heads to avoid them, however eventually they must be dealt with. It is too easy to become complacent, lazy, not wanting to expand our potential or change our paradigms. "You don't get what you
expect - you get what you accept," this is a favorite quote my husband shares with lots of people.
Recently I was watching a television program that researches artifacts, people and their place in history. A lovely woman, elderly, was requesting information about her father, Mr. Cooper, who was the first black ventriloquist to be featured in Vaudeville. During the time when
discrimination was exceptionally bad he attained a level of recognition publicly and professionally that was unparalleled. His daughter wondered how he did it .
In doing the research about Mr. Cooper it was discovered that all of the white performers had gone on strike, so he stepped up to the opportunity, was hired, put on his performances with his puppet "Sunshine Sammie" and was a tremendous success. It also was discovered, to the amazement of everyone involved in the research, that the puppet "Sunshine Sammie" was the older brother to another famous puppet - "Charles McCarthy", Edgar Bergen's stage pal.
Upon finding out about how her father achieved his success Mr. Cooper's daughter said, "My father had a wonderful attitude. He believed that when the door of opportunity cracks, even a tiny bit, you push it open the rest of the way."
Agitation is an opportunity to look at what you don't like and take the steps to change whatever needs to be changed, whether it is diet, lifestyle, job or attitude. When life is bouncing you up and down like an agitator in a washing machine it is time to ask questions. To agitate means
to move or force irregular action; shake or move briskly; to disturb or excite emotionally; arouse, perturb.
Agitation isn't the enemy; it is really your friend. Without it, you can't spin and clean out your old stuff and bring about freshness in your experience. Potential never rises to the surface without one being put through the process of challenges. Self discovery frequently is the
gift received from the discomfort of it all.
It's now summer and what a wonderful time to spend with friends and family. As you enjoy the beautiful weather don't forget the gift of time for yourself. You are never too young or too old to reflect on priorities, dreams and aspirations, working out new directions for new adventures.

GOLDEN NUGGETS
True Stories About Real People
Leo Buscaglia was always an inspiration to the people he met. Here
is one of his stories that I thought you would enjoy.
"I always enjoy talking about Julia child. I really like her attitude. She's someone I would write to. I watch her shows because she does such wonderful things: 'Tonight we're going to make a soufflé.' And she beats this and she whisks that, and she throws things on the floor. She
wipes her face in her napkin and she does all of these wonderful human things. Then she takes this soufflé and throws it in the oven, and talks to you a while. Then says, 'Now there's one ready.' When it opens it up, it caves in. You know what she does? She doesn't kill herself. She doesn't commit hara-kiri with her butcher knife. She says, 'Well, you can't win 'em
all. Bon appetit!" I love it! That's the way we have to lead our lives. You can't win 'em all....
But I know people who are still flagellating themselves over mistakes that they made twenty years ago. 'I should have done this,' and 'I should have done that.' Well, it tough that you didn't. But who knows what surprises there are in tomorrow? Learn to say 'Bon appetite.'...Nobody said you were perfect. It might even be more interesting. You burned the dinner, so you go out!"
