| What if I had not married at a young age? Where would my life have taken me?
What if I move to a new neighborhood and don't like it? I couldn't afford to move again!
What if I'm too old-too young?
What if I fail? What if? What if?
These two words have caused so much confusion, anxiety, fear and trips down a non-existing fantasy of mind's lane that leads nowhere. Instead of opening doors of thinking, too frequently 'what ifs' slam them shut with apprehension and indecision.
Just about everyday I review author's publications, reading their stories about people, their struggles, explorations and experiences. Truly insightful and inspiring, an infinite array of possibilities show themselves, making one aware that you are never too old to learn, grow and experience new things. One of the most significant observations I've made is that about 95% plus of these authors have gone through some pretty crappy stuff. Instead of weeping and wailing 'the poor me' syndrome they chose instead to live in the moment, plan for the future, set goals and just get busy doing what needs to be done.
Sound easy? Not for most of them. For many it took years of earnest effort, discipline and determination to work past their 'what ifs'. How about dealing with the 'what is possible' attitude?
Can you imagine yourself at 84 years of age getting a Ph.D.? That's what Kathryn Ogg is working towards. She lives in Virginia and has been labeled a 'life long learner'. What a great label to be given! She hasn't let life hold her back in any way. For 50 years she worked as a nurse, retiring in 1992. During those years she was a working mom, earned 3 different degrees, deciding long ago that she was going to make things happen in her life. Her motto, "A
little something here and a little something there. Nothing monumental just making things happen." What if life throws a monkey wrench into your plans? Well, Jack Kanter dreamed of being a civil engineer. Upon leaving high school he found that a war was creating problems for those in the engineering field. His father suggested dentistry. Jack thought about it and decided he would build little bridges instead of big ones.
His career took him into unexpected territory. He became a part of a very special group, the Craneafacial Team, which eventually became "Operational Smile". His work challenged him to create artificial eyes, various prosthetics, develop patents and touched the lives of thousands.
Embrace this time in your life. Work with what you have, focus on your dreams and goals and move forward. Take one step at a time and before you know it you'll find others wanting to hear your amazing tales of accomplishments well done. You'll become the master of your world, smiling when you share your stories of your step by step journey of living.
Your moment to begin.now, today. The future? Well, you'll just have to wait and see what wonderful gifts await you.

IRISH BLESSING
May there always be work for your hands to do; May your purse always hold a coin or two;

GOLDEN NUGGETS
True Stories About Real People
Opening an exhibition of Rabindranath Tagore's drawings in London, Lord Zetlan told how the famous Indian writer found, by accident, that he had a gift for making pictures. He had given up his best years to his pen, writing books and plays and verses, enriching the world with noble thoughts finely and beautifully expressed; but one day he made a blot.
A sheet of paper was apparently ruined by this unsightly circle of ink. Instead, however, of the blot being the end of a little piece of work, it became the beginning of a big piece, for the poet began to draw around the blot in order to change it from a blemish to a thing of beauty. In so doing he found his skill as an artist. Later he developed it.
