A Moment with Donna - "Garbage Out"©

Every Tuesday, during the early hours of morning, a bulky monster of metal and motor, noisily
groans and moans its way slowly down our street. With great effort and stress it lowers a metal arm, pick ups our green rubber trash can, lifting it dumping the contents into its massive open belly already filled with garbage from the morning's collections. Once the chore is finished it moves on, repeating the ritual until eventually it turns a corner and you can't hear it anymore.

Monday through Friday in preparation for my radio show here in Tacoma, Washington, I begin each
day with thoughts, new ideas for 'personal empowerment'. Hearing the garbage truck making its
rounds the words – 'Garbage In, Garbage Out'- popped into my mind. It dawned on me that just like
we need to get rid of physical garbage on a regular basis the same principal applies to other types of garbage as well.

Life is always evolving, it never stays still. Sometimes habits, attitudes, belief systems and
established patterns/actions are no longer suitable or necessary. As we go through life we may have to change course to fit the needs of a moment or plan. We may need to throw out something that we want to hang onto.

Each day brings fresh opportunities, new beginnings but how often do we hang onto 'stinky, old
stuff' of past experience allowing the stench of fear, anger, frustration, disappointment, and confusion overwhelm us to a point of emotional, mental and sometimes physical exhaustion.

Have you ever been around old garbage that has been sitting in confinement for a while? Whew!
Not sweet smelling stuff! It stinks to high heaven and attracts bugs! Ugh! It is not healthy, you can get sick from exposure to it, and as a result go through a lot of misery.

So, what can you do? You dump it into a container and get rid of it! You clean up the garbage and
throw it out! This is the very process you can use for making your life more productive, fulfilling and
free. Have you had a business that failed and left you hanging financially, relationships that went sour, loss of loved ones, spiritual, mental or physical trauma that haunts you, taking away your life's essence and purpose? It's time to dump the garbage.

Here is a suggestion that was passed along to me, perhaps you may find it useful. Find a lidded
box, not too big, and put on it the lid –Garbage Dump-. Whenever you find yourself anxious, fearful,
hurt or angry – don't let those thoughts or emotions take over your mind, instead, write them down on a piece of paper. Open up the lid to the 'Garbage Dump', shred the paper and put it in, close the lid and forget about it. Then, start to count your blessings and let the 'stinky stuff' go. Dump your 'garbage'. If you hold on to your old garbage there isn't the space to let new things into your life.

November is Thanksgiving month. Celebrations will bring people together throughout the country to enjoy wonderful food, conversation, and fellowship with friends and family. This is a great time to renew the habit of gratitude and develop a new habit of 'dumping the garbage' of the old to make place for the new.

Every day is a wonderful opportunity for life to be expressed in the most unexpected ways. Savor its
gifts for they will enrich your heart, mind and spirit, bringing joy, love, fulfillment and new beginnings for a richer life
Donna Seebo.

Thanksgiving Prayer

We thank Thee, Lord, for many things,
For this year's bounteous offerings;
For fertile fields and amber skies,
And brilliant hues where daylight dies.
We thank Thee, Lord, for friends who care,
In time of grief and deep despair;
For freedom that is so complete-
For all the neighbors on our street;
For courage on the rugged road,
And strength to bear the daily load.
We thank Thee, Lord, for hearth-fires bright,
When comes the darkness of the night;
For all that makes this life worth living,
And help to hallow this Thanksgiving.

-Biggar of Riverside in "The Wake of the News," Chicago Tribune

(~.~) NOVEMBER'S CHUCKLE (~.~)

A man had been plagued for weeks with a bothersome rash which confused his doctor. The
physician, after a time-consuming examination, hemmed and hawed and finally asked: "Have you ever had this kind of itch before?"

The answer was a vigorous "yes."

"Well," said the sawbones, "looks like you've got it again!"

Power Thought for November

"Someday I hope to enjoy enough of what the world call success so that somebody will ask me,

"What's the secret of it?" I shall say simply this: "I get up when I fall down."
Paul Harvey

GOLDEN NUGGETS ~ True stories about real people
Always give your best for you never know who is watching and/or listening.

In 1930, Pat O'Brien had a scene in a play "The Up and Up" in which he had to contend with two angry people at once – a person on the phone and one at his desk. To him, playing that scene was maddening, "like fighting through Notre Dame's football line while singing 'Danny Boy.'" The play received mixed reviews and its outlook seemed dim. During the time he was involved with the play, the thought crossed his mind, "Why knock myself out on this play that has no future?" But within
himself he had to hold true to his own standard and that was to give the very best he possibly could. So, each performance he gave his all, sometimes finishing the play dripping with perspiration.

The show finally closed, and O'Brien went on to do other mediocre parts. Then one day he received a phone call from a man who said, "Mr. Hughes is filming the play 'The Front Page and wants you in it." O'Brien jumped at the opportunity. The film's director, Lewis milestone, later told him why he was selected for the movie. Milestone had gone to New York with friends, planning to see a particular hit show, but they were one seat short so Lewis went to see 'The Up and Up.' He said, "One scene really
impressed me – the one at the desk." O'Brien's successful film career was kicked off by his giving his all for a part he had deemed worthless.
