The fall winds are blowing, leaves are changing colors and the bright oranges of ripe pumpkins are everywhere to be seen here in the Northwest. This is such a wonderful time of the year. It is filled with an energy that only this season brings.
As the temperature drops we bring out our heavier quilts to drape across our beds. We air out our stored winter clothing, knowing that soon we will be wearing them and we don't want to smell like mothballs.
It is time for hot soups simmering on the stove, filling the air with their rich, flavorful fragrances. Breads and cookies baking in the oven promise to be wonderful companions to steaming mugs of delicious hot chocolate.
The long hours of daylight are disappearing. As the evenings begin earlier it is easy to cozy up with a good book, enjoying adventures of the mind that summer's activities didn't encourage. It is a wonderful time to think, learn and explore new ideas, create new plans, visit with friends and enjoy quiet time that we usually don't allow ourselves.
Have you ever noticed how, when you are quietly thinking, a process of reminiscing sometimes occurs? It happened to me just the other day when I was enjoying a few moments to myself. I became aware of the busyness of my thinking. As I watched my thoughts float through my visual theater I observed the images it projected. It was like watching an old-time movie. Sometimes my emotions started to get agitated. Old
attitudes floated to the surface of my thinking and I became quite amazed at the intensity of it. The old tapes of experience were playing their re-runs and I was getting caught up in their drama.
Then it occurred to me what a waste of time this activity was producing. So I switched positions of thought and observed how my life's experiences have brought me to this rich time of life I am now living. With a change of perspective and focus the whole mental and emotional picture altered. Instead of meandering with old ghosts of sad times, stress and disappointment, I chose to visit with the friendly ghosts of wisdom, insight and understanding. I accepted that who I am is what I choose to be. That knowledge is meant to give us the opportunity to decide what we like and what we don't like.
When we take charge of our minds we empower ourselves in wonderful ways. If ghosts of the past rise up and haunt your mind with fear, a sense of failure or apprehension for the future, "STOP"and "SWITCH". Realize that they are just friendly ghosts of memory meant to show you how far you have come and that your journey of life and experience is still to be enjoyed. Donna Seebo

WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH..
When you have had one of those "Take This Job And Shove It" days, try this:
On your way home after work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the section where they have thermometers. You will need to purchase a rectal thermometer made by Q-tip. Be very sure that you get this brand.
When you get home, lock your doors, draw the drapes and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed during your therapy. Change to very comfortable clothing such as a sweat suit and lie down on your bed. Open the package containing the thermometer, remove it and carefully place it on the bedside table so that it will not become chipped or broken.
Take the written material that accompanies the thermometer and as you read it you will notice in small print the statement that "Every rectal thermometer made by Q-tip is "PERSONALLY TESTED".

Real Stories About Real People
This is a true story submitted by one of the readers of this newsletter. It is her story about the magic of pennies.
"I'll share with you my story about pennies in my life. Years ago, when I was a young girl I had a dream where I was walking up a driveway just loaded with golden pennies. I didn't think much of my dream experience at the time but when I got older the memory of it had a special significance.
Later, as I grew spiritually, I realized they symbolized to me pennies from heaven and that my path in life was paved with these golden pennies. I realized that it is important to remember in dreams the "essence" of the symbology.The penny represents a lot. It is 'one cent' – a symbol of oneness; Abraham Lincoln, a representation of freedom from slavery; the slogan, 'In God We Trust'; the White House, the white light of spirit; it's color is golden, symbol of the gold of the heart.
I find pennies constantly. It reminds me of how we attract things to us. Many years ago, after giving a spiritual growth class some women came to visit me. I told them about my experiences with pennies, what they meant to me and how I was always finding them. We decided we would go down to a special place at the bottom of a nearby hill so we could gather some fresh horsetail grass. This is a great herb with lots of silica in it. It is good for the nerve endings of the feet and excellent for footbaths.
While we were there we found many pennies scattered by a small running creek.
What synchronicity! My visitors were awed by this experience, especially after hearing my story earlier. They felt the timing was very special. This was a special happening for them and for me as well. It felt as if the Universe was listening and gave us a wonderful gift. Sandra D'Angela, California
A HALLOWEEN RECIPE~~~~~~~Chocolate Spiders
4 Cups semisweet chocolate baking chips
Melt chocolate chips in top of double boiler. Let stand over the water until water is cool, about 10 minutes.
Place wax paper on cookie sheet. Pour chocolate into a pastry bag that is fitted with a
1/8-inch or *-inch tip. Squeeze chocolate onto wax paper in the shape of spiders. If chocolate is runny it needs to be cooled longer.
Chill the spiders for about 10 minutes. When hard peel off wax paper. Store
in refrigerator laid flat.
